Designs and Development: The Fork Needle
The Foster Fork style utilizes the Foster patented side grooves, or indentations on the blade. These side grooves are specially formed to allow space for the fibers to be carried within the circumference of the blade. This allows for lower stress. Also, this results in a loop or velour surface of better form and definition. The fork opening has a width and depth which can be varied to produce the finished fabric appearance desired. While we have standard fork widths and fork depths for the various blade sizes, when different effects are desired we can vary fork width from .004" to .022" (.10 mm to .56 mm) and we can vary fork depth from .004" to .030" (.10 mm to .76 mm). Naturally each blade size has its own limitations on fork width. For needles, lengths are available in 1.5mm increments from the standard 2.5 inch or 3 inch lengths. These are color coded for convenience of identification. |
